A Town Called Condom…

March 26, 2008 By: Condom Monologuer Category: Monologues

Condom, FranceI can’t imagine it’s easy being a French town at the best of times, without having the daily struggle and ridicule of being known as ‘Condom’. All the other towns must point and laugh, and lets be fair, they have every reason to. I mean, naming a town ‘Condom’, it’s just not fair. Would you name your baby ‘Coil’? Or your new dog ‘The Pill’? Even as middle names, contraceptives rarely work. That said, ‘Sheath’ seems to be a fairly well accepted surname. Anyway, despite the word ‘condom’ not strictly being part of the French language, the people of this town have accepted it does have an English meaning. They have built their own museum detailing the history of the Rubber Johnny. They ensure each and every shop has a regular supply of everyone’s favourite rubber things and even some of the road dividers have been gifted a rather humorous shape! Good to see a town’s sense of humour breaking a very well established language barrier…

Trojan Ultra ThinTrojan flags this condom as its “thinnest” one ever, with a thickness of .0020 inches. Looking at other reviews, many said that this condom breaks. I never experienced this. However, I did find this condom to be rough and dry, despite the water-based lube.  “Thinnest” does not denote sensitivity. It felt like a rubber dildo.  The ring was stiff, with little elasticity.  Ultra Thin was hard to roll onto my partner.  Each time we had to pause and fight with it to get the ring down to his base. Strange, considering that the condom is a standard 7inches in length with 2in width.

Condom size chart

March 22, 2008 By: admin Category: Condom News, Condom Size Chart

Due to the fact that every penis is different, one single comprehensive condom size chart seems impossible. Yet when it comes to condoms, size (and shape) is everything- for effective protection, comfort and pleasure. This article aims to consolidate info about each leading U.S. brand’s size schemes, hoping to lessen the confusion over what fit is the true fit for men.

** Please note that this article will be updated whenever we get new sizes, brands or information. We will also include dental dams. So please subscribe to our RSS feed or enter your email in the box on the top right of this page. **

This is not a condom company endorsement! Simply due to the fact that the major brands in the U.S. are Durex, Trojan and Lifestyles, our first aim is to gather sizing information from these brands.

Penis size chart:

Identify your penis size according to the average rubric most condom companies follow. Here are two charts created from a Lifestyles 2001 study. Facts are sourced from Wikipedia’s article “Human penis size“.

The study found that the average penis length was 14.9 cm (5.9 in) and the average circumference being 12.6 cm (5.0 in)- see chart below. 401 college students volunteered to be measured during 2001 Spring Break in Cancún, Mexico, of which 300 gained an erection to be clinically measured (without pharmacological aid). The 300 effective measurements makes this study double the size of any prior study that uses medical staff to measure penis size.

Now onto the condom size chart for major U.S. brands:

Durex condom size chart

Durex was the only brand for which we found measurements for each individual product. Above each diagram are the condoms which apply. More information can be found at Durex.com.

Lifestlyes

We are researching further into the sizing of Lifestyles Condoms. They’re particular difficult chart, since most of their condoms are not shown with dimesions. You can check out our Condom Brand Reviews page, join the discussions and give us your ratings on Lifestyles and other brands.

From the limited information we have gathered, most Lifestyles Condoms are tailored towards the “average” penis size determined by their 2001 study discussed above: The average condom length at 7.0 inches; the average width at 2 inches. However,

LifeStyles® Snugger Fit has a tighter width.
LifeStyles® His & Her Pleasure has an oversized tip. Funny enough, this condom is larger than Lifestyles King Size XL.

LifeStyles Condoms, Natural Feeling

March 05, 2008 By: Administrative Team Category: Condom Brand Reviews

Lifestyle Natural Feeling CondomsNatural feeling….well, whatever “natural” means. But this condom definitely is thin. As thin as physics may allow, Natural Feeling is perhaps one of the most sensitive condoms I’ve ever felt (it would be interesting to compare “Natural Feeling” to Lifestyles’ “Ultra Thin” brand). Yet, there isn’t much else unique about it. Transparent in color with a reservoir tip. The lubricant is sheer and smooth. The latex smell is there, yet not offensively stinky. However, I did find these condoms to fit a little short and tight on my partner than most other condoms. Despite size, I feel this condom is a simple, safe choice… and satisfying, “naturally”.

A New Sales Pitch: From Purse to Penis Fahion Accesories

February 27, 2008 By: Administrative Team Category: Condom News

proper attire

Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a sexual and reproductive health care provider, is receiving a percentage of proceeds from a new condom line called Proper Attire TM. What’s unique about these condoms are its stylish packaging, from pastels to polka dots to Victorian-like fig leaf print. Also new is its exclusionary retail. Sold only at boutique shops and selective hotels for $6.00 +, its mostly middle-upper class Dandies that are buying. According to Planned Parenthood News Room this new condom strategy hopes to make it cool for women to carry condoms.
“Social taboos make some women embarrassed to buy and carry condoms. That’s why PROPER ATTIRETM was created,” said PPFA President Cecile Richards. “With its fashionable wrapping, women will now have the option to choose the right ‘attire’ for that special occasion.”
I’m unsure how to feel about targeting women to buy condoms through the superficial rhetoric of fashion. In an attempt to debunk the stereotype that men are the condom-holders, Proper Attire seems to be investing in another gender stereotype. One that echoes “Beauty Myth.” Furthermore, its posh prices and locale reduces accessibility.
Would it not be more proper for condom lines to focus on effectiveness, comfort, and accessibility rather than just pretty packaging?
Nonetheless, it is obvious that Proper Attire’s aim is to make condoms widely appealing and socially acceptable. Perhaps it is better to have a variety of choices- contraceptives feeding a range of taste, cohorts, and occasions… however those demographics are marketed. Perhaps the cause predominates its means, particularly for the non-profit.

Trojan, Extended Pleasure

Trojan, Extended Pleasure

With a “climax control lubricant”? More like a pleasure prevention lube. As far as extending pleasure, yes, it did prevent my partner from cumming early and at all! The Trojan, Extended Pleasure condom is smelly, sticky and wet. So wet, that when you peel it out of its wrapping, the lubricant drips everywhere. Be careful what you touch after handling. Its overpowering, sour smell tends to linger. And to top it off, 3 out of the 7 times I’ve used it this condom failed. Once it numbed my partner so much that he lost all springing spunk. Second time it leaked. Then another, it broke! If the appeal is to postpone male orgasm the thing better be able to withstand long durations.

LifeStyles Condoms, True-Fit

February 20, 2008 By: Administrative Team Category: Condom Brand Reviews

Lifestyles true fit

True to its slogan, “Like a second skin,” this condom does feels like “the real thing” (or thingie). The LifeStlyes “True-Fit” condom (not to be confused with “Snugger Fit”) rolled smoothly and quickly on my partner. Snugly on him not only ensures me that it won’t slip, leak, or burst; but as I experienced, there was also no rubbery, irritating friction. The sensitivity was there. And its low latex scent formula really makes this condom all the more appealing.

Welcome to The Condom Monologues

February 10, 2008 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

Most of us have heard of It: That little ravel of latex or polyurethane sheath accompanying our sexual worlds, be it through porn, art, public restrooms, corner stores, orgasms (or lack thereof), the health clinic, or the infamous sex ed. class- whatever encounter you can think of.
Here starts the Condom Monologues: A censor-free, non-judgmental collective focused on the condom, and the social or personal topics it surrounds. The title was inspired by Eve Ensler’s play, Vagina Monologues, hoping to arouse a continuous discussion about female sexuality and empowerment. Only here we insert The Condom with a more inclusive gender format.
Such is the reoccurring theme: The condom as a cultural object, morphs across social and political spheres with its own histories and statuses. Condom Monologues is a place to converge and discuss the experiences we have with this object. Not only to share something funny, sexy, or serious, but also to set up a more collective way to distinguish a brand in the condom market among varying opinions and experiences. Post a story. Let the unraveling begin!
